Karine Hains: Another Episode in the Books Today, the rest of the draft was held and the Habs added several prospects to a cupboard which was already stacked at many positions. Here’s my breakdown of the day.

Can we talk about the trade Habs are going to do tomorrow instead? Not another 500 posts of this useless talk please

What he did in ethical terms was wrong and indefensible. That said he's already faced his legal consequences of that, and there are lots of players around the league who have done poopty stuff while they were older than he was and I'm sure everybody speaking about "consequences" would be more than happy to have them on the Habs. Think Patrick Kane with the cab driver incident and his duchey rep, Austin Buttcheeks Matthews (money talks), Ryan the drunk driver O'Reilly smashing the Tim Hortons (what if he hit a person instead, money talks again). Corey Perry who we're hoping resigns with the Habs has a very dirty rep on the ice (though he hasn't done much dirty in a Habs uniform). I know this isn't an off ice issue, but obviously he's no saint we love having him none the less.
Here's a colorful article about players who I argue did way worse and went on to have some long careers on and off the ice in the NHL https://www.thesportster....entences-for-nhl-players/

Point is, in a years time this isn't even going to be a discussion point, what will be discussed is how good of a hockey player he is, so if Bergevin thought he was a the best player available, I have no issue with that. Feel free to tell me how heartless I am, but I know for a fact all of this noise will die when the next controversy hits. No offense Karine, but calling the Hawks a classy organization just because they had some women in the draft when it is looking like everybody in the organization at least knew about the sexual incident from top to bottom cannot possibly be fair. Please don't take offense, I love reading your articles.

As much as it’s risky as it is I won’t be surprised to see Eichel in a Habs jersey soon

Because being taken at 31 instead of Top 10 and having to deal with endless scrutiny, likely for years won’t have an effect on his daily life

Whatever “punishment” he deserves beyond the fine, he’s already getting it

Five years from now if the kid is an integral part of the Habs and staying out of trouble and doing charitable stuff in the community, then MB will be praised as being bold and visionary.

If the kid is a bust and/or shows himself to be a douche, then this a a watershed for the demise of MB.

Right now MTL needs a distraction as this plays out.

Won't they have to mortgage the future for that to happen ? Buffalo would have to lower their expectations, no ?

In a few years when he’s anchoring MTLs top pair and scores a huge goal, the holier than thou virtue signallers on here today will be desperately pointing that one time he worked at a soup kitchen for a day and that proves he learned his lesson, and they can be his #1 fan now

Yikes! With the ask and the health uncertainty i don’t think I want to see that gamble...what if he has the surgery and ends up with permanent damage? The Habs will have sold the farm and find themselves with hardly anything left...

No offense taken, i feel like they are trying to make amends no matter how awkwardly tbh. The Habs will more than likely eventually try to do the same as well so that people forget this pick especially if it doesn’t pan out...kinda feels like drafting 4 lhjmq players was a way to shut people up as well in a way but maybe im just too cynical lol
